  Annual Beach Day Party
 Moderator: Josiah Richards
09:00 am - 04:00 pm
FREE 100 100

Join Chiltern Mountain Club for our annual Chiltern Beach Day at Horseneck Beach State Reservation in Westport Point, MA.
Typically about 35-45 people come to the CMC's annual beach day. Members and guests come from CT, MA, NH, RI, & VT. If you're able, we encourage people to bring snacks and liquid refreshments (non-alcoholic, of course) to share. If you bring a case of water, ice, cups or other general communal items, the club may be able to reimburse you, but let me know if you plan to do that. Don't need everyone showing up with a case of water. Make sure you save your receipt(s).
The club may furnish a canopy tent for shelter from the Sun.
The parking fee is $13 per car for MA residents and $40 per car for non-residents.
What to bring?
Most importantly, Sunscreen, plenty of water, and of course your bathing suit. If you're able, please bring snacks and liquid refreshments (non-alcoholic, of course) to share.
Why Horseneck Beach?
We realize it's a hike from many places throughout New England, but what beach isn't? What's nice about Horseneck Beach is parking is inexpensive, it's relatively easy to get to from major highways, the water is warm, and it's a quasi-gay beach... at least when we go!
Where on Horseneck Beach?
The beach is nearly 3 miles long and parking is approximately in the middle. From the bathhouse and snack bar, take a right at the end of the boardwalk, heading west (towards RI). Follow the paved road (partially covered by sand) and pass through the second major opening in the dunes to the beach, and we usually set up near here on the beach. We may not be able to display any signage (it's against reservation policy), but we are usually the only group with a large, 10'x10' canopy tent.
Info & Traveling:

Many people today seem to have some kind of GPS device or use online maps and directions service, so I'll spare the detailed directions. In a nutshell, to get to Horseneck Beach State Reservation, make your way south via I-95, I-495 or Route 24 to I-195 near Fall River, MA. From I-195 take exit 10 for Route 88 south and that’ll bring right to the reservation!
Please do NOT wait to call me Saturday morning. One, I might be driving. Two, reception is horrible at the beach. I will not be able to hear to hear you if I attempt to answer.
Contact Josiah at [email protected] if you have any questions, or send an email on Facebook. You can reach me by cell, 617.306.3840, also, but please do not wait until Saturday morning to call me.
